Events

Throughout the year, we celebrate a diverse range of festivities and cultural events and link these to our current topic with fun activities for the children. As well as traditional celebrations like Christmas and Easter, we also look to other cultures and celebrate events such as Diwali, Chinese New Year and Hanukkah. In addition, we particularly enjoy marking more unusual occasions, including International Mud Day! We love having visitors at Duxford Preschool, so if your family celebrates a special event or you have an interesting hobby, which you would like to share with the children, please let us know by either speaking to a member of staff or emailing manager@duxfordpreschool.org.uk.

We run an annual PANTS fortnight, where we introduced the NSPCC PANTS campaign to the children. The aim of the project is to teach children how to keep themselves safe from harm in a fun and age appropriate way, which we do with a variety of games and activities, such as a pants Olympics, designing our own pants and wearing pants on different parts of our bodies! More information can be found at https://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/underwear-rule/.

We also like to get dressed up, so for World Book Day we will sometimes dress as characters from our favourite books or have a pyjama party and our end of year celebration will usually entail fancy dress too, with a theme such as pirates or superheroes.

We organise excursions for the children and parents/carers and siblings are always welcome to come along with us. In the past we have been to places such as Home Farm at Wimpole Hall, Wandlebury Country Park, Linton Zoo and to the pantomime at Cambridge Arts Theatre, as well as smaller trips around the village.
